eBanking Security Update for May 2018

On May 17, 2018, NWCU’s online banking will implement required online and mobile banking security features.

What’s Changing?

Your browsers and mobile operating systems will need to meet updated requirements in order to access online or mobile banking after the upgrade has occurred (which is as early as May 17, 2018). If your browsers or operating systems don’t meet the new security requirements, you won’t be able to access eBanking on our website or our mobile app.

New computers, tablets, and smartphones bought within the last two years will likely be unaffected. These are the updated requirements for browsers and mobile operating systems:

Browser Version You Need for New Security Protocol
Microsoft Internet Explore (IE) Version 11 or higher
Microsoft Edge Any version
Mozilla Firefox Version 27 or higher
Google Chrome Version 38 or higher
Apple Safari (desktop) Version 7 or higher
For OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) and higher
Apple Safari (mobile) Version 5 or higher
For iOS or higher

Mobile Operating System Version You Need for New Security Protocol
Android Lollipop (5.0) or higher
Apple iOS 5 or higher

If your browsers or mobile operating systems don’t meet the requirements outlined above, you’ll need to upgrade them in order to access online or mobile banking. If your browsers or mobile operating systems meet the requirements, then you’re all set!

Why the Change?

This security implementation is to help prevent more major data and card breaches. Our servers are upgrading to Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.1, which is a protocol that provides privacy and data integrity between two communicating applications. It’s the most widely deployed security protocol used today, and is used for web browsers and other applications that require data to be securely exchanged over a network.

All U.S. financial institutions will be required to comply with this upgrade by June 2018.

How to Upgrade Your Browser

If your browser doesn’t meet the updated security requirements, you won’t be able to log into online banking. Upgrade your browsers by downloading the latest versions:
