“MAKE OR BREAK” FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS AT NORTHWEST COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION
Springfield, OR. - Northwest Community Credit Union (NWCU) was ready to make a deal with
high school students from Willamette, Thurston and Cottage Grove. In “Make or Break” a game
based on the show “Deal or No Deal,” students and their principals had the potential to
walk away with an amount of up to $2200 to contribute to the school program of their
choice.
The students answered true or false questions relating to finance and credit union
history. “We feel it is our duty to help with financial education, the state has had
so many budget cuts. The largest growing segment to declare bankruptcies are youth
between ages 18 to 23,” said Helen Byrnes, CEO of NWCU.
Willamette walked away with $650, Thurston $500 and Cottage Grove $225, all the
students received $100 savings accounts.
