MEDFORD BUSINESSES CONTRIBUTE TO NORTHWEST
COMMUNITY MAKEOVER AT KIDS UNLIMITED
Non-profit remodel project gains momentum with donations from local businesses
MEDFORD, Ore. — Thanks to the generous support of local businesses, needy kids in Medford will soon have a place to get a hot meal. Through its Northwest Community Makeover project, Northwest Community Credit Union has brought local businesses together to remodel the kitchen at Kids Unlimited, a non-profit organization that provides academic, sports and cultural enrichment programs for disadvantaged children in Medford.
A number of local businesses and organizations have generously contributed time, labor and materials to the project including:
- American Lumber
- Batzer Construction
- Curtius Huntley Plumbing
- Curtis Restaurant Equipment
- EdenVale Orchards
- Eoff Electric
- Fashion Floors
- Gutches Lumber Co.
- Hi-Way Lumber
- Lowe’s
- Rogue Pacific Lumber
- Sierra Pine
- Valley Electric
Additionally, St. Mark’s Episcopal Parish of Medford and the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon have donated more than $7,600 to Kids Unlimited. The funds will be used to purchase appliances and equipment for the remodeled kitchen. And David Wilkerson of OgdenRoemerWilkerson Architecture is donating his time to serve as architect and project manager of the kitchen remodel.
The new kitchen will allow Kids Unlimited to provide hot meals for hundreds of needy kids in Medford every day. The credit union selected Kids Unlimited as the recipient of its 2006 makeover project in order to address an urgent need in Medford. The city was recently identified as having the second highest youth homeless population in Oregon. In addition to providing meals, the kitchen will serve as a culinary learning lab and catering kitchen, providing local kids with educational opportunities.
“Northwest Community Credit Union is dedicated to giving back to the community where our members live and work,” said Jan Griffin, manager of NWCU’s Medford branch. “We’re having a great time working on this project and we are delighted that so many local businesses in Medford have partnered with us on the makeover. We’re really making an investment in the future of Medford.”
Residents interested in participating or donating to the Northwest Community Makeover project can contact Jan Griffin at Northwest Community Credit Union’s Medford branch.
