NORTHWEST COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION OPENS STUDENT BANKING BRANCH AT
WILLAMETTE HIGH SCHOOL
New student loan program will be launched at same time
What:
Northwest Community Credit Union (NWCU) will be opening a
not-for-profit Student Banking Branch at Willamette High School, its second in-school
branch in the Eugene/Springfield area. The branch will be staffed by student tellers,
under the supervision of a NWCU employee, to provide students with hands-on experience
in the field of financial services. Students using the branch will learn money management
skills that will prepare them for life after graduation. Students will be able to open
their own checking and savings accounts and have their own debit card.
The Credit Union also will be launching Smart Loan, a fixed-rate loan program for
Willamette High students. The new program is designed to provide financial assistance
that is not readily available to high school students while teaching them how to use
credit wisely with the hopes of avoiding credit troubles that often overwhelm teenagers
and young adults.
