NORTHWEST COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BUYS PROPERTY FOR NEW SPRINGFIELD
BRANCH
New upscale branch will contribute to revitalization of Main Street
SPRINGFIELD, Ore.—To better serve its members living and working in the
Springfield area, Northwest Community Credit Union (NWCU) has purchased a three-acre parcel
in the Thurston area with plans to build a new branch slated to open in the fall of 2005.
The new building will replace the current 42nd Street location, which served as the credit
union’s original headquarters and is its oldest branch.
“We are seeing more and more of our new members coming from the nearby Thurston area,”
said Northwest Community Credit Union President Helen Byrnes. “The new location will
provide all of our members in Springfield with a more convenient location and a much nicer
banking experience. We believe the area is becoming an important business district for
Springfield and we are excited about contributing to the revitalization of the
neighborhood.”
The new 4,500-square-foot branch will be located on Main Street on property that
formerly was a storage facility for modular buildings. Modeled after branches in Medford
and Bend, the building will have a very Northwest feel to it. The exterior will be faced
with river rock and will include a distinctive tower and multi-lane drive-up banking.
“Northwest Community Credit Union’s decision to build a branch on Main Street is great
news,” said Springfield Mayor Sid Leiken. “The economic well-being of this area depends on
businesses investing in an area that at one time might not have been considered an ideal
location.”
Construction on the new branch will begin in early 2005.
“We’re excited about the new branch because it will be a little nicer environment for
our members and easier to find, but with the same familiar staff,” said Springfield branch
senior teller Sheri Agan. “I'm looking forward to seeing all our members' friendly faces at
the new location next year.”
Northwest Community Credit Union is the only credit union open to most Oregonians,
serving residents and their family members in 12 counties. NWCU now has nearly 60,000
members and more than $430 million in assets.
