April 2008--Springfield Youth Day of Caring
On April 25, teams of community and youth volunteers
took to the streets and parks of Springfield for the 13th Annual Springfield Youth
Day of Caring. Their mission? To make the Springfield area an even better place to
live, work and play.
The Springfield Youth Day of Caring gives young people
the chance to lead while showing them how their good work can very visibly improve
the community in which they live. Youth volunteers take on tasks such as planting
flowers, removing clutter, fixing up buildings and forging trails. Adults tag along
as mentors and role models, but the real leadership is found among the youth
volunteers. Many of these kids are taking on leadership roles for the first time
in their lives and are astounded to find that that they come by it naturally.
Northwest Community Credit Union is committed to our
community and our youth, so this was a perfect event for us to sponsor, as well as
a great opportunity for us to work directly with both.
How can you help? Become a sponsor or get involved
with a community or youth day of caring in your area. Springfield residents can
contact a member of the Youth Day of Caring Steering Committee or call 744-4700.

March 2008--It’s your board, it’s your vote!
Three Board Members were up for re-election in 2008.
You could vote to reconfirm them from March 17 through March 31. You could cast
your vote online or get help voting by phone or in your local branch.
Why vote? Because you can! Its one of the
things that makes credit unions different from banks. (Read
more about what makes credit unions different from banks.) Election results will
be announced during our annual meeting on Wednesday, April 9 at 5:45 at our
Gateway Headquarters. All members are welcome to attend the event.
This is the second election that we have used
iTech
Northwest’s innovative online voting technology, CastMyVote.net. This system
was developed with credit unions and other non-profit boards of directors in mind.
What is the Board?
Our Board of Directors represents our members and has a direct say in the overall
direction of the credit union. Any adult member of Northwest Community (in good

March 2008--Change Bandits invade Northwest Community
Thank you for helping us!
With your help we raised
just under $4,000 for the Children's Miracle Network with our Change Bandits effort
this year!
During the month of March, the Change Bandits invaded NWCU
and gathered change from
generous donors. But these bandits weren't scary and they worked for a good cause. The
money that they collected was donated to The Children’s Miracle Network. During
March you could see collection jars, bandit pins and perhaps an occasional wandering
“change bandit” at our Lane County branches.
